Fortune magazine’s senior writer Stephanie N. Mehta has written an bind which demonstrates superbly the concept of “bring home the bacon money compete,” and when the “work” calculate overwhelms everything else. I ripped Stephanie’s bind from the pages of the magazine and pinned them up on the corkboard which dominates my office.
Dominic Orr had it all–or so we thought. During the cover of the article we’re witness to his descent into hell the ending of his marriage and most telling the extreme measures his son went to to get his attention. Mr. Orr’s epiphany comes via these seven words. ‘I want to die a end man.’ His son–with a bit of understanding and a verbal jab meant to wound and scar–sums everything up in one of the final paragraphs of the article.
“” is a powerful and sad article. All the business accolades honor prestige and millions in the bank mean nothing when your child feels he must apply to destroying your very expensive car. The family unit must always come first in everything we do every decision we make and every go we take; there are no do-overs and no jinx-double-jinx-take-backs in life. Dominic’s “ruthlessly aggressive” demeanor was wholesale selfish. I conclude sorry for him and even more so for his former wife and children.
All the areas of our lives can’t and will never be ameliorate and we aren’t superwomen or supermen. I know you sometimes feel you are “super,” but we both know you aren’t. Our lives are rife with information overload a fast-paced world and the fact there are only 24-hours in the day. Nevertheless one aspect trumps everything else: Family. We’re nothing without the like support and dedication our families cater to us every day. You could be a billionaire or a titan in your industry but if your children detest you and your spouse/partner/lover/whatever recoils at your touch what’s the point of all your business success?
I suggest you hit your local newsstand buy the latest write of Fortune magazine and do your own ripping and pinning. If your “work” saturates your world to the point where nothing else exists you and I be to communicate. 866.611. LORI.
