"State Children Health Insurance Program Problems Don?t Bode Well ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 00:54:04

Most of the health care reform packages likely to be considered by the Legislature during its current special session ordain include provisions to grow the express Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). SCHIP is known as Healthy Families in California. So the political drama unfolding in Washington concerning SCHIP is critical to the express. It also should serve as a warning especially to those advocating a central role for the government in delivering health compassionate. Here’s where SCHIP currently stands: On September 25th the accommodate of Representatives reauthorized SCHIP on a relatively bipartisan vote (45 Republicans voted for the bill; eight Democrats voted against it).  The legislation. H. R. 976 provides additional monies for the program and most importantly continues the schedule past it’s sunset date of September 30th — yes as in this coming Sunday. The Senate will now consider the bill and is expected to pass it as written. This means no conference committee ordain be required the measure simply goes to the President’s desk. So far so good. However. President George Bush has committed to vetoing the bill. One reason is the cost: the President wants to increase SCHIP spending by $5 billion over five years; Congress is seeking to change magnitude spending by over $35 billion during this time-frame. More significantly the to expanding eligibility for the program beyond it’s current income levels arguing that doing so is “an incremental step toward the Democrats’ goal of a government-run health care system.” Even with Republican give the House is unlikely to overturn the President’s veto. HR 976 passed with 265 votes in advance; it takes 290 votes to override the President. The good news is that the SCHIP program is unlikely to end on September 30th. Congress will either fasten on short term funding to an existing continuing resolution. If that doesn’t interim funding could be passed as stand-alone legislation. Then the battle for long-term continuation of the program will start-up again. There’s more than a political soap opera going on here. What we’re also witnessing is a warning. When the government controls health care it means health care is political. Decisions are not made to respond to market pressures or consumer bespeak but to satisfy the politics of the moment. There likely will be an short-term extension of SCHIP. But then again maybe not. Remember when President account Clinton.

"Health Insurance Costs Too High? Alternative Not Pretty" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 22:00:36

I hear this argument over and over and it's one of the things I'll consider until I'm color in the face. "Health insurance is too expensive." Ok. I have to agree. But at the age of 25 (I experience. I experience…populate aren't supposed to get sick that young) I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and ordain rest behind my statement that "being egest is way more expensive than health insurance." No way around it. We are obviously not talking about the kind of sick a nasty cold brings. Fine if you don't have insurance and have to go to the doctor for your cold it’ll probably be $70 plus meds. But if something worse happens you are basically screwed. An ambulance ride is an easy $500. If they undergo to use sirens ascertain on an extra fee. If you need a biopsy of something you not only have to pay the adulterate but the lab and the shipping costs. Happen to need an antibiotic that works for a specific condition? It could cost you $500 for a 30-day supply (I know first-hand). So let's believe this. First of all. I had insurance when I was diagnosed and my healthcare costs are still so outrageous you'd probably breathe hearing about them. BUT if I didn't undergo insurance at all. I'd for sure be impoverish by now. desire. 3 times over. One of the issues is eligibility. Because I have now been deemed "uninsurable," I appreciate my insurance much more than a lot of populate. I have to pay a lot for it but I'm so glad that I had it when I got egest because now there would be no way I could answer. I’m too big of a risk and insurance is a business so that leaves me in the dust. I often get the rebuttal line about having to pay for health insurance each month and then wasting it if you don’t undergo to use it. I say it’s the beat thing you could ever hope to waste. It’s the point of insurance. You are transferring a assay. You don't get car insurance praying you'll get in a car accident so you get your money's worth right? Same concept. Now there are a ton of things about healthcare we can charge about and rightfully so. I mean after seeing Michael Moore's SICKO we can't help but be disgusted. The unlucky ones of us who have lived it weren't shocked at all. For everyone else it was an important wake-up call. But change surface though insurance is far less than perfect it's still something. For instance not long ago. I needed a $5,000 brain scan. I ended up having to pay $500 of it. So some would bitch that I shouldn't undergo had to pay anything that's what insurance is for etc. But. I'd rather pay $500 than $5,000. It's a deal! There is also the theory roaming about that if you got really egest and were really poor the government would take compassionate of you. Partially adjust. You could possibly answer for medical care under social security if you were deemed totally and permanently disabled (after jumping through a million hoops and most likely having to contract a lawyer in the meantime). However there is a two-year waiting period if you change surface get approved (which is not easy). Playing devil’s advocate let’s say that is your back up intend. Very few ever go as far as to investigate if this is actually a good idea. Government care (at least in America) is not the same quality of compassionate you'd get through private insurance. Pessimists ordain say that private insurance isn't exceptional compassionate either but let me assure you that if you conclude that way you wouldn't be happy on the government's intend at all. You wouldn't have to pay but bequeath as the old saying goes... you get what you pay for. Also if you are getting it for free good luck getting anyone in the system to hear your complaints. If you have a job that offers insurance don't leave until you have a new job that offers insurance. If you undergo a choice of an HMO or PPO choose the PPO change surface if it costs more now (this ordain be an entirely different bind). An HMO sounds desire a good broach until you are egest and waiting for the insurance company to decide when you get to see the adulterate who you will see what tests you need and more. You really don't want someone in the business of saving money making those decisions for you. After becoming disabled and unable to work. I qualified for COBRA (continuation coverage from my old employer's group through California) at a very high premium. It’s the same insurance as I got at no cost when I was working there which is what COBRA laws defend. But it's the best money I spend every month. After all there is nothing I'd rather spend my money on more in this world than getting well or at the very least not getting worse. If you are one of the healthy (and lucky) ones realize it's an amazing privilege to be insurable. And if something unfortunate happens your less-than-perfect but still-something insurance company will be there to act compassionate of you better than you could all on your own. I promise. I agree that the be of insurance is nothing compared to the cost of being sick and uninsured. But there's also being insured and needed treatment that isn't covered - I've paid thousands over the past two years because my insurance refused to cover doctor visits for pre-existing conditions for the first year of coverage. I mean zero coverage. Nada. My affiliate was paying them about $400 a month for me and they in turn covered not one adulterate's visit. Insurance is nothing more than a bottom-line business we participate in and they are in it to make money just desire other businesses. It's sad but the truth. My insurance doesn't adjoin so much of my particular illness's treatments (I just spent $25k for a treatment they didn't evaluate was necessary) but I just kind of undergo to be thankful they adjoin what they do because it's more than I can. Some real world solutions to the health insurance problem coming from a guy that has not had ANY isurance in 7 or is it 8 years. First if you contract a major disease (I am most familiar with cancer). Go to India for treatments. (Think about how many Indian doctors are already in learn here.) Hotel stay hospice kemo treatments radiation food etc etc ordain be about 10-20% of the be cost in the USA. (again I am most familiar with cancer especially Sloan-Kettering in NYC). If you need emergency dwell care try a walk-in clinic. Avoid Ambulance rides. Usually they undergo x-ray and/or diagnostic imageing facilities on hand. If they don't then go to a smaller facility but avoid hospitals as they are only for the insured wealthy and illegal aliens getting remove care. If there are any complications (ie surgery orthapedic specialists etc.) and you can jaunt. Go to Canada. It is NOT free to non Canadian citizens but there medical system has fixed price controls so you ordain save a bundle. Also prescription drugs are cheaper there if not go to Wal-Mart for $4.00 prescriptions. And measure but not least. Eat a healthy diet and keep a healthy weight. Unotherwords eat like Western Europeans or exceed yet Asians and not like an American. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Also adopt the mind-set that the U. S government ordain do nothing for you. And in most cases for working class legal Americans it won't. Then and only then can you choose a good game intend. This all comes from my first hand experience! There is a huge misconception that people are proposing socialized medicine. What most are proposing is national insurance.

"US CONGRESS PASSES CHILDREN'S COVERAGE; SCHIP HEADS TOWARD VETO" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 16:04:31

The U. S. Senate on Thursday sent to President Bush a bipartisan $60 billion case that would extend the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) for another five years. Healthy Families. California's version of SCHIP currently covers 850,000 children. Both California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein voted in favor of the measure. Even though SCHIP is set to expire on Sunday. September 30th. President Bush has already vowed to contradict the decide which achieved a veto-proof majority in the Senate but not in the House. Thirty-four of 53 California Representatives supported the measure in the House of Representatives vote on Tuesday including Representative Mary Bono who was the only one of the 19 California Republicans to cross party lines to choose in favor of children’s coverage. HR976 ultimately passed with a 265-159 vote majority on Tuesday evening but not the 290 votes needed to withstand a contradict. See the full enumerate of how California’s delegation voted here. The State Children’s Health Insurance schedule expires on Sunday after 10 years. It covers 6.6 million children nationally including about 850,000 children in California through our Healthy Families Program. HR976 (the SCHIP reauthorization bill) would increase coverage to an additional 4 million children – halving the be of uninsured children in the nation. THE BILL HR976 would give an increase to SCHIP of $35 billion over five years. State would receive a 2:1 federal be that dollars states pay in covering eligible children. The bill would give federal funds for children in families up to 300 percent of poverty -- $61,950 for a family of four. While many states only allow children under 200 percent of poverty some states with high costs-of-living undergo higher eligibility levels: California’s Healthy Families program goes up to 250 percent and has pending proposals to increase that coverage to 300 percent. New Jersey has had 350 percent and New York has proposed 400 percent although their request has recently been rejected by the Bush Administration. Allowing more middle-income families to join the program has been a point of contention with the President and other Republican members of Congress who view expanding SCHIP into middle-income territory as supplement toward “socialized care for.’’ But supporters of the expansion argue that private health coverage has become too expensive for families to buy on their own – especially as employers scale back benefits offerings or decline to furnish coverage altogether. In California some estimate the increase would help the state achieve near-universal coverage for children: about 650,000 children. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic leaders undergo all advocated for increasing eligibility for children under the SCHIP/Healthy Families program and such expansions are part of their overall health expansion proposals. The expansion of eligibility at the federal level would be covered by a 61-cent increase in the tobacco tax which was decried by Republican opponents even though a new survey shows that 67 percent of Republicans advance an even larger tobacco tax to fund children’s health compassionate. The same poll change surface shows that smokers don’t mind (by a 51-47 margin) paying more to keep children healthy. THE DEBATE Sen. Edward Kennedy. D-Mass. for instance pointed out that senators who planned to vote against expanding SCHIP earned $160,000 annually. “well above 300 and 400 percent of poverty’’ yet still acquire a generous health package paid for by taxpayers. “You’d think if they (the opposing senators) are so offended by federal government spending they wouldn’t use it themselves. But no they’ll take it. …This is extraordinary hypocrisy. How can they be complaining all afternoon about a federal government program and then have the federal government paying for their own,” he said. Sen. Chuck Grassley. R-Iowa also spoke in favor of the measure accusing some of his Republican colleagues of distorting information and correcting the inaccurate assertions his friends made. Grassley also reminded lawmakers that that low-income children should acquire the health care they need when they need it. Republican senators who opposed the bill denounced the expansion as leading to “government health insurance,’’ an argument that President Bush has been rolling out the previous weeks in laying out reasons he ordain contradict the bill. Others desire Sen. Jim Bunning. R-KY opined that his express which does not allow anyone earning more than 200 percent of poverty ($41,300 for a family of four) was subsidizing other states like California and New York which had higher thresholds for eligibility. But there’s a cerebrate some states undergo higher thresholds – it’s far more expensive to live in California than it is to live in Kentucky. While the Senate voted with over two-thirds of the domiciliate voting for the SCHIP reauthorization. The House also had a broad bipartisan vote with 45 Republican votes in favor. Republicans Congressmen in those states with higher eligibility thresholds (and thus more to gain for their states) generally voted for the program including 4 of the 6 New York Republican Representatives and 3 of the 6 New Jersey Republican Representatives. This was not the inspect for California's delegation. Despite the support from Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger only 1 of 19 California Republican Representatives--Mary Bono--voted in favor of SCHIP. Another. Wally Herger did not choose. THE CONSEQUENCES FOR KIDS If Bush keeps his promise to veto the SCHIP re-authorization account a California HealthCare Foundation analysis by Peter Harbage found shows that California could run out of money to run Healthy Families by mid-November. That means our Healthy Families program may have to disenroll 850,000 children who would suddenly be unable to go to the doctor the dentist fill prescriptions and other medical needs. furnish has urged Congress to extend the program at current funding levels but that would also be a detriment to California. Our Healthy Families program has been partially running on money that was saved up from previous years when fewer children were enrolled. With more children enrolled now. California would not undergo enough money to keep the currently enrolled children covered let alone accept new children into the program. According to the CHCF analyses that would convey California would run out of money by summer 2008 leaving all children without coverage or dis-enrolling about 250,000 immediately in October to act the schedule going for slightly longer period. WHAT’S NEXT The children’s coverage reauthorization debate has unfolded this year in tandem with the larger debate about expanded health coverage. In California and many other states the expansion of children’s coverage is a first step and an important building block toward a larger coverage expansion for the uninsured. Seeing this advocates this year have worked hard and remained unified in advocating for coverage expansions for both children and adults. The work was enough to convince a majority of California’s congressional delegation to vote in favor of the SCHIP re-authorization. Advocates are encouraged to write convey YOU notes to members of Congress particularly Rep who was the only California Republican who crossed party lines to give the measure. Advocates should also write and go up with other delegation members such as.

I went 7-4 last pass and I am 36-14 on the year so far. UW. Bama. Penn St and Oregon State let me drink measure week. It is big game time for the Pac Ten with two marquee games approve to back on Saturday. USC at WashingtonUSC turnovers are the only thing that will act this one close. be for the Trojans to advance early and often if they don't stop themselves. If UW pulls an disturb off it ordain be epic and what a great pass to do it with Jim Owens and the 1961 Rose Bowl aggroup in town for a celebration. UW is the beat team the Trojans have faced this year so far and the Huskies haven't played as come up as they can compete in the second half the measure two weeks. It ordain take four quarters and a whole lot of luck this week. California at OregonI have to go along with the oddsmakers and pick the Ducks this week. Both teams have problems on defense and the Ducks let Stanford excite them a bit measure week after they gave them the bunco field with turnovers. Oregon just seems like a more complete team at this point and Cal never wins at Autzen. UCLA at Oregon StateThe challenge I undergo is how many turnovers combined will go out of this game? The team that self destructs the least ordain win and I am picking UCLA because Canfield has been awful. Arizona State at StanfordThe Devils ordain have no problem with the improving Cardinal all they have to do is hold on to the roll and press it out. Stanford did furnish Oregon a scare measure pass and is an improved aggroup. WSU at ArizonaI think the Cougars will advance all day on the Wildcats. The Coug defense while terrible is good enough to hold the terrible UA offense down enough to get the win. National GamesThe biggest games of the week are out West but this is how the be of the country stacks up. Auburn at FloridaA tough SEC bet but I furnish the advance to the Gators at domiciliate. No upset for the Tigers this year. Michigan express at WisconsinBoth teams are undefeated but I furnish a big advance to Wisconsin at domiciliate in this one. Clemson at Georgia TechTech is 2-2 but a real book football team at this inform. I choose them to disturb Clemson in this one. I evaluate both to contend with BC for the ACC title at the end of the year. Penn express at IllinoisThe Lions are smarting after an unexpected loss to Michigan last week. Illinois is off to a good start and should be bowl move this year but they won't defeat Penn State. Notre Dame at PurdueA 0-5 go away for Notre Dame? Yes and it might be 0-8 before it starts to move around when the schedule softens. Joe Tiller and his 4-0 bunch are going to move all over the Irish they like it in West Lafayette when they displace the Irish home with their tails between their legs this ordain be one of those games.

"Senate Avoids Filibuster on SCHIP Expansion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 18:49:54

As expected today the Senate invoked cloture to take its version of the re-authorization and expansion of SCHIP to an up or down vote. Assuming the end vote reflects support for the actual bill the Senate's version of SCHIP will pass with a veto-proof majority: . The senate Republicans who voted with the Democrats on this included not surprisingly. Norm Coleman. Susan Collins. Pete Domenici. Gordon Smith and John Sununu all up for re-election in 2008 in blue or blueing states. They know just how outside the mainstream and politically perilous opposition to this expansion by furnish and the majority of their minority is. posts several examples of media coverage of the SCHIP fight. Of particular interest is who directs his righteous indignation in the right direction for once: The spectacle Tuesday of 151 House Republicans voting in lock go with the White House against expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) was one of the more remarkable sights of the year. Rarely do you see so many politicians putting their careers in jeopardy. The bill they opposed at the urging of President furnish commands healthy majorities in both the accommodate and Senate but is headed for a contradict because Bush objects to expanding this form of safety net for the children of the working poor. He has staked out that ground on his own ignoring or rejecting the pleas of conservative senators such as Chuck Grassley and Orrin Hatch who helped shape the compromise that the House approved and that the Senate endorsed. At least he's consistent. Broder constantly calls for bi-partisan cooperation and now that the senate and house undergo delivered that he places blame where it belongs: on the obstructor in chief and his compliant minority. Broder goes on to convey his disbelief at the willingness of so many Republicans to go him over this cliff and rightly predicts how their No votes ordain be played next year. Bush's adamant rest may be peculiar to him but the willingness of Republican legislators to line up with him is more significant. Bush does not have to approach the voters again but these men and women will be on the ballot in just over a year -- and their Democratic opponents will undoubtedly remind them of their votes. I spoke with one such Democratic challenger measure night at our blograiser. Russ Warner who plans to run against David Dreier in CA-26. It ordain come as no surprise to learn that Dreier voted against SCHIP on Tuesday and Warner is passionate about this air; he absolutely intends to make Dreier pay for that vote as Warner's official statement condemning it makes clear (David Dayen at has it): "At a time when we are spending $450 billion on the war in Iraq. David Dreier's unwillingness to drop in California's kids shows how out of comprehend he is with the priorities and concerns of people in the 26th district," said Russ Warner. Democratic candidate for Congress in the 26th district. Currently 850,000 children in California receive health compassionate coverage through the SCHIP program in California called Healthy Families. Dreier voted along party lines against the reauthorization of the program and a proposed expansion that could undergo extended health compassionate coverage to another 650,000 children in California currently without health insurance. David Dreier said this legislation which is supported by groups such as AARP the American Medical Association and Easter Seals - is an "expansion of the welfare state." "After 27 years in Congress all David Dreier has to offer are outrageous comments and unwavering support for George Bush's failed policies," said Warner. Also as a reminder the turn call of the House vote is. Did your congressman vote No? label and advise them to switch their choose to Yes in the event Bush follows through on his veto threat (does anyone think he won't?) so we can win over the 24 additional Yes votes we be to decree it. [editor's say by Todd Beeton] Slightly edited. The up or drink vote on this bill will be tonight. Thanks for harping on this important air. Todd. It is a burlesque how furnish and his cohorts are making a mockery of this process. I had written a diary that dissected furnish's shameful radio address from measure Saturday in which he focused almost exclusively on S-CHIP. Bush's communicate address was full of half-truths and exaggerated claims so I think Bush is sure to contradict this thing. He is either ignorant of the actual true extent of the expansion bill or knowingly puts out false data. Either way it is shameful.

"Extraordinary Expansion of Government-Run Health Care Headed to ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 20:19:59

For the back up measure this year. Congress was forced to consider an extraordinary expansion of government-run health compassionate when the new Democrat majority brought its SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) reauthorization legislation. move II to the floor. Once again this legislation demonstrates that Democrats are more than willing to compete politics with our children’s healthcare. I simply won’t support a account that hurts our children and buries taxpaying families in extraordinary debt. Read on. The SCHIP bill just considered opens the door to government-run healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants. While current law would require proof of citizenship to get access to SCHIP benefits this bill would substantially weaken these requirements. Illegal immigrants don’t be any more incentives to displace over our borders; but a free ride with the beat healthcare system in the world is certainly a big incentive to cross with or without obeying the law. And again the American taxpayers foot the bill. And they’re not only paying for illegal immigrants under the provisions of this bill the American taxpayers will also be footing the bill for hidden pork barrel spending. For instance in their backroom negotiations the Democrats slipped in a $1.2 billion allot for the State of Michigan as well as earmarks for a couple of counties in California and a hospital in Tennessee. New Jersey taxpayers are already overburdened; they shouldn’t be forced to pay more for this political consider trove. To pay for the expansion the majority relies on the very regressive cigarette tax to offset its spending spree. But quite frankly this tax misses the attach entirely. According to a. “To produce the revenues that Congress needs to fund SCHIP expansion through such a tax would require 22.4 million new smokers by 2017.” So apparently if children be government run healthcare they be to go away smoking…and go away smoking a lot. Furthermore several studies undergo determined that high cancel taxes lead to a thriving illegal market for cigarettes. This black merchandise drains billions from our nation’s small businesses and helps finance and even encourage additional crime and violence in our cities. That’s why a strong coalition of small business groups and law enforcement groups including the New Jersey express Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) and the National Association of guard Organizations; oppose an increase of cigarette taxes. There’s a reasonable alternative on the table one that I am cosponsoring in fact. A straight 18-month reauthorization of SCHIP that maintains care for 6.6 million low-income children without expanding the program into such absurdities as providing government-run health coverage to 70,000 families that are considered so rich that they have to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). But the majority wouldn’t even allow a beat debate or consideration of this reasonable alternative. Instead we were faced with a straight up-or-down vote on a $110 billion expansion program that does what Democrats do beat: tax and pay. The account Speaker Pelosi forced on the surprise this week is headed for a train destroy. SCHIP ordain soon expire and the millions of children who get heath coverage through it ordain be left uncovered if we don’t pass an extension. But instead of working with Republicans who created SCHIP in the first place the Democrat leadership has brought forward a bill that the President has vowed to contradict. Democrats have reverted to their old habits: tax and pay and then use vulnerable children as pawns to get what they be. This is politics at its worst and simply not good policy. The House passed the account 265 to 159 on Tuesday and the Senate followed conform to yesterday with a choose of 67 to 29 clearing the decide for the President and an expected veto. Stay tuned. This is vitally important not only policy Wise but politically. I watched the adorn on Special inform on FNS and they nailed. It maybe good policy to oppose this account but the Reps will get destroyed politically because you will be painted as anti children. What can we all do to counter the political storm ahead? "The nine most dangerous words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'" Your inform about needing new smokers to pay for this legislation needs to repeated loudly and often. That is a debating point that will go with the public. Let's hope the president includes it in his veto communicate. -----------------------Develop alternatives to existing policies and keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable. Milton Friedman Stand tall and voice your reason for not supporting this bill. I evaluate the voting public knows what is going on with this account and would like their Representatives to be strong. This ordain show that the accommodate is not as politically corrupt as the Senate. Plus we are a desire way from an election. In media.

"S-CHIP Crumb-bum Roll Call" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-21 15:40:04

measure night the House passed the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act preserving coverage for 6.6 million children whose parents do not answer for Medicaid but can not afford private insurance and expanding the program to bring badly-needed health coverage to millions more children in low-income families. The roll call vote was. 25 votes short of a veto-proof margin. 45 Republicans broke ranks to support 220 Democrats on the legislation while 151 Republicans and 8 Democrats cold-heartedly voted "no". It always amazes me that Republicans are eager to put on their "fiscal conservative" hats when it comes to taking care of society's most vulnerable constituencies but are so willing to rubberstamp billions upon billions for an endless war in Iraq with no questions asked. But when it comes to healthcare for kids? Oh no we can't afford that kind of pro-life legislation. In the words of crumb-bum extraordinaire (R-CA): "It dramatically expands the welfare express," said Rep. David Dreier. R-Calif. The following is a list of incumbents from districts with a of R+6 or weaker in request of the strongest Democratic seats to the most Republican seats in this bracket. Maybe the following Representatives forever be relegated to the crumb-bum hall of compel: Dishonorable mentions go to Democrats Baron Hill (IN-09). Jim Marshall (GA-08) and Gene Taylor (MS-04) who also voted against the bill but be redder districts than the ones listed in this chart. If the likes of Chet Edwards. Nick Lampson and Jim Matheson who represent some of the toughest districts in the nation for a Democrat to direct can sight ways to vote for this crucial legislation surely you guys can discover your inner Democrat when healthcare for kids is at stake. Challengers running against these Representatives would be well-advised to hammer their opponents hard on this bill. As notes: The survey finds that voters side with Dems on the issue by 60%-35%; that independents want the program expanded by a 34-point margin. 62%-28%; and that voters in Republican-held districts also overwhelmingly advance the expansion. 55%-39%. One such candidate isn't wasting any time. Dennis Kucinich's primary challenger. Rosemary Palmer. : I was appalled by Congressman Kucinich's choose against the State Children's Health Insurance Program on the accommodate floor tonight. This account would have expanded an already successful schedule to give health insurance to millions of children across the country. It takes some twisted logic for someone who claims to support health compassionate coverage for all to oppose this necessary and overdue move in the right direction. I've had this visualise in my continue for a while that I think sums up the Republican party: an elephant dressed as a druid holding a dagger with both hands above its continue. In front of it is a lamb with the label "American populate" on the altar of the "free" market. Should we expect anything else from Joe Knollenberg? and former State Senator Gary Peters is the strongest candidate we've had in years. Even with all this political pressure and the overwhelming voice of the people he continues to vote in lockstep with the Bush Administration! Unbelievable. Knollenberg supposedly knows that he'll face a stiff challenge so I cannot accept he'd hand Peters this kind of ammo with his harden vote. I hope Peters has been hitting Knollenberg hard in the press over his betrayal of children. for adding alter to the "D"'s and "R"s. It is SO much easier to read and see Democrats in Republican districts and vise versa. Really Really hard. The ad should basicly be congressman X voted to contradict poor children the vital heath care they deserve. He also voted to spend half a trillion of your dollars in Iraq. Congressman X hates children and votes to continue a mindless war. He also eats puppies by the litter. The end.(I threw one of them in there so the others didn't be so bad) What was their reasoning for voting against it? I dont get why two such liberal house members wouldnt choose for this. I hope she just pushed the wrong add or something. This act just boggles my mind. Kucinich though is Kucinich. Because the bill wasn't 100% perfect he had to vote no. : "I cannot support legislation which extends health coverage to some children while openly denying it to other children," Kucinich said. "This legislation is woefully inadequate: and I ordain not support it. "Legal immigrant children be the same quality health compassionate as other children acquire. It is Congress' responsibility to address the main difficulties that prevent legal immigrant children from gaining access to health care. Today we did exactly the opposite. "HR 676 guarantees beat health care coverage for all children. When considering a universal health care proposal. HR 676 the Medicare for All account is the only health care plan that addresses three important issues: quality accessibility and cost. HR 676 stands alone in an increasingly crowded handle.
