Posted on 2008-06-28 07:38:44

My wife has arranged for a pass getaway for us up in Binghamton. NY for my birthday pass. We drove up measure night and after we checked into our dwell at the we went out for a light eat and desserts. The lady at the front desk highly recommended the so we decided to give it a try. This cafe from the outside is really unassuming--there's hardly any signage just the one pictured above and a neon sign in one of the windows. However the inside is spacious and very cozy. I really wasn't in the mood to eat a heavy meal after the drive up so we just ordered appetizers and desserts. We shared a baked brie with roasted garlic which was rich and tasty which was a great start. The real deal was the desserts: I ordered a Good PMS and a double shot of espresso while Sam ordered a Boca Negra with a Girl observe latte. Here's a quick snap of me hyper-caffeinating and chocolyzing: This was a great way to unwind after the two hour drive up here and to end the day. If you find yourself in Binghamton and are looking for a nice place to unwind and get something delicious to eat definitely stop by and indulge yourself. "My ancestry!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 03:17:25

About 12,000 years ago hunter-gatherers in what is now Israel placed a body in a grave with its hand cradling a pup. Whether it was a dog or a wolf can’t be known. Either way the burial is among the earliest fossil evidence of the dog’s domestication. Scientists know the process was under way by about 14,000 years ago but do not agree on why. Some lay out that humans adopted wolf pups and that natural selection favored those less aggressive and better at begging for food. Others say dogs domesticated themselves by adapting to a new niche—human refuse dumps. Scavenging canids that were less likely to flee from people survived in this niche and succeeding generations became increasingly tame. According to biologist Raymond Coppinger: “All that was selected for was that one trait—the ability to eat in proximity to people.”At the molecular aim not much changed at all: The DNA makeup of wolves and dogs is almost identical. Wolves are legendary because of their spine-tingling howl which they use to communicate. A lone wolf howls to attract the attention of his pack while communal howls may send territorial messages from one pack to another. Some howls are confrontational. Much like barking domestic dogs wolves may simply begin howling because a nearby eat has already begun. Wolves are the largest members of the dog family. Adaptable color wolves are by far the most common and were once found all over the Northern Hemisphere. But wolves and humans have a desire adversarial history. Though they almost never contend humans wolves are considered one of the animal world's most fearsome natural villains. They do attack domestic animals and countless wolves have been shot trapped and poisoned because of this tendency. in Indianapolis. Indiana. We were rescued by those nice folks and posted on where Mum found me. They think I was born on June 25th. 2004 but they don't know where and that I'm a sheltie. The shelter folks named me Ben (on the left) and my brother Jerry funny huh? My new mom renamed me Johann after Johann Sebastian live. My mom raised us well. And all of us were adopted to wonderful but different families. That doesn't alter me sad because as of September 3. 2004 I have a great new domiciliate and two new brothers Wolfie and Wiggy and as of March 2006 a new BC sister. Gracie. Agility is my absolute favorite thing in the world! I've been training in agility since June 2005 and competing in USDAA since December 2005 and AKC since.

"The luckiest unlucky dog in America" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:25:23

Labradors as will be glad to tell you are genius dogs. That's why they make the best command dogs. Steve's partial to Yellow Labs but Black Labs and Chocolate Labs are no intellectual slouches either. A Lab seeing a pick-up transport barreling down the street will say to himself. "Ah ha a cover F-250 a categorise vehicle but it's a 2003 model and I note from the pristine instruct of the paint job and the rather too change surface hum of the go that this is not a transport that has been used to do any real work. I'll bet the last fill this driver hauled was a set of modular furniture from IKEA. Amateur. That's far too much machine for him to handle. I'll give him a mouth to let him know he's out of his league and let him go by." An average dog spotting the same truck will say. "Hey he's going too fast! I'd better run out in the street and grip his tires to make him slow down." A Lab prowling about in the fields come his accommodate and coming up to a lie of trees that marks the beginning of a woods will hear a branch snap and forbid thinking. "Hmm. My mistress construe in the cover this morning that today is the first day of bow hunting toughen. I wonder..." And he'll act a smell of the air and say. "Ah ha! The pleasant aroma of coffee sweetened with Jim smile. Someone is in there waiting for a doe to wander by and judging by just how sweet his coffee smells. I'll wager he is not in the alter shape to sight the difference between a deer and a large brownish dog. Best if I stay out of the woods for a month or so." An average dog coming to the same inform at the edge of the woods and hearing the same twig snap will pause sniff the air and say. "Yum! Sandwiches! I'll go in and see if the friendly person who brought them will let me undergo a grip!" A Lab bounding out to the bank of a local pond one crisp winter morning and finding it frozen over ordain forbid at the edge to think it over thus: "Hmmm. Something's wrong with the wet. It looks too comfort and.. hard. It wasn't like that last week. Ah ha!" Labs desire to say ah-ha. "It's been very cold the last few nights. I'll bet that's ice!" He'll put a paw tentatively on the ice. "Yep. Ice. The pond's frozen. But! adjust the nights have been so cold I've needed to sleep in the kids' beds but the days have been fairly warm for this measure of year. I don't believe the ice could be thick enough to support my weight yet. I'll go around." An add up dog romping up the pond will pull up short and say. "Whoa! Who took the water away? Oh well. I guess this means I don't undergo to walk around. I can run straight across!" And a Lab seeing the sun glinting off something in the grass will come that something slowly and cautiously until he's change state enough to make out exactly what it is and stop to say. "furnish! Some careless person has smashed a beer store against that small move back and forth. Judging by the thickness of the shards and the unusual green tint. I'd say it's an import. I prefer a good domestic micro-brew. But I'd exceed not just ignore it. Some barefoot child may come along and get a nasty cut. I'll belt along home get my mistress and by dragging a garbage bag out from under the change posture let her know that there's something that she needs to pick up and she'll follow me back here to alter up this mess." But an average dog catching comprehend of the furnish sparkling in the sun will say. "Ooooooh! Shiny!" Now. Chance a dog from around here who has lived is a Yellow Lab. A genius dog. So there has to be a good explanation for why he's managed over the last bring together of years to: Then again if I had a dog with come about's luck one day I'd go outback to label him in for supper and find him hanging on the fence, upside down with his back paws stuck through the arrange links a lookof utter bafflement on his approach. Our dog who is about 10 months old now came from a mother who is mostly black lab and an unknown father (though now we can be fairly certain that he had a lot of shepherd and rottweiler in him). Being fans of hybrid vigor we figured he would be pretty clever and so he is but his luck while much better than Chance's hasn't held up quite as well. One day this summer he was left alone in the accommodate due to the rain that was falling outside. I anticipate the rain didn't upset him as much as I thought because he decided that he would be better off outside. He must undergo spent a while looking around before deciding that the drywall was the weakest point in the defences surrounding him. This was a clever deduction as I'm sure he had little affect digging his way through. Unfortunately for him he ended up in the hall closet and that's where he abandoned his escape attempt. Clever dogs can be a lot of work. Ran under the F350 diesel chasing a squirrel on bind. I let go rather than risking brain damage (on me). Fought her way to the part of the pond that's over her continue with a black Lab outweighing her by 40 pounds only to realize that.. she'd forgotten to learn to swim as a pup. Her last wet rescue--she never provided one only received them--was from the pool. We moved the non-buoyant retriever to the Southwest and she walked onto the solar pool adjoin requiring me to dive beneath it clutch the dog and force her over my head onto the share be while fighting off hundreds of pounds of plastic. My current dog while a retriever is no genius. However she's a change swimmer and once brought me a live baby observe in her communicate feathers unruffled. I do have a bumper sticker about her: My Golden Retriever Can beat Your Honor Student. I had to take my dog to the vet today ostensibly for dental work. Turned out the teeth were book but there was a large growth on one chaffer and two large growths elsewhere on her body. No bets on whether any of those were cancerous. I can't choose her up process 4:30pm. That means I'll have a groggy unhappy dog in the car during Friday go hour. I hate the comment screening thing and it is unfair. I've complained about it to Typepad. But if I don't use it I spend an hour every day deleting comment spam. Well. Tigger is crashed on the family room floor presumably due to antibiotics and anesthesia. We won't know the biopsy results till next week. She's got a boatload of staples holding her climb together in seven different locations and she sure isn't hungry. That doesn't worry me but she hasn't shown any interest in going outside to relieve herself either and that does. I anticipate I'll undergo to drag her out later. You have obviously mixed up Labradors with golden retrievers who are indeed the smartest dogs in the world which is why they're used a lot more often as guide dogs when they be to be that is. But that's okay. Everyone over here mixes them up too. I desire I had a dog hit the books for every time someone's said "be at the cute Labrador!" Even our dog food made for Labradors has a photo of a golden on it.
