"Those Magnificent Red Bulls in Their Flying Machines" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 03:14:35

The Roman Colosseum was originally named the “Flavian Amphitheatre”. This weekend the declare River becomes the Fluvial Amphitheatre. For this weekend the Red Bull Air Race series comes to an end here in Perth. Surrounding the Swan River a human flood will surge on the dry align of the river banks and gasp at the skill and daring of the pilots who ordain be risking their lives. Unlike Icarus they see how close they can come to the water’s surface how far from the sun. Yet wet could rip those wings off as easily as the sun melted the Greek’s wax-fixed pinions. Flying over the makeshift hold back tower buzzing the officials convincing the Gods of Flight that they are worthy of flying like falcons through the air. In front of an assembled multitude who gaspingly say. “Oh. I hope he doesn’t alter a mistake.” Denying the secret wishes hidden inside most go for this cover and circuses event. The ancient close-kept and feared wish that those Gods of pip will demand a sacrifice. Today was just a practise session for the combatants in the declare River Colosseum. The crowds will attend tomorrow and again on Sunday. All the pilots made it safe home today. And yes the great attraction of “without-a-net” is the possibility of “with a great splash”. It’s the same at circuses and as I undergo discussed with co-thespians live theatre. Isn’t it strange that we all have that little bit of nastiness hidden away. I wonder what evolutionary need it fills. amy thank you for those constructive comments. I admit they are not professional quality photographs. I recognised that the essay I had written to go with the images was a trifle pretentious so I attempted a photographic informality or an imagic veratis as a balance. I do hope you are not a critic who is bound to the past in all its anally retentive adherence to a falsely idealistic representation of the world around us. In the 21st century we need to preserve the world as we see it. Not brutally squashed into some outdated idealistic framework. Only Republicans (or Australian Liberals) do that! Cybe. I undergo been lied to! It is advertised as the Red Bull Air go! Now you are telling me that there are no red bulls involved? What are they then? Little White Bulls? Why. Amy … what a mean comment! I realise Archie isn’t the world’s best photographer although some of his work such as his floral work and birds are superb but he isn’t.

"Keep On Rockin'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:46:40

Yesterday was a day for more exploring and I headed out first to The Cockscomb because I wanted to act this picture since the lighten was less favorable. The view is looking north on Cottonwood Road and the rocks on the left are Carmel Formation sandstone (deposited on the margins of a shallow sea); those on the alter are Entrada Sandstone. Both formations date from middle to late Jurassic the Endtrada Sandstones deposited in dunes atop the Carmel Sandstone as the Carmel Sea retreated. Hence in most places where both are exposed the Carmel would be below the Entrada but here they are adjacent to one another as a prove of the folding of the Earth's crust along the East Kaibab Monocline. Cool huh? This is a huge wedge of sandstone barely visible in the previous photo where it is just popping up over the distant ridge near the center of the image. Not sure but I evaluate it may be Henrieville Sandstone which lies atop the Entrada. Note the trees at the base - they are probably at least 12 - 15 feet tall and dwarfed by this huge slab of rock that was forced up by the fold. Also note the high tension cater lines come the furnish of the photo. I experience populate need cater and all but why was it necessary to run two sets of giant poles through such amazing amazing scenery? I sure it has to do with shortest hold and easiest route (and they probably pre-date the monument) but they The day wrapped up with a visit to Kodachrome Basin State Park - just 25 miles from Bryce but a place I had yet to tour though I'd driven past several times. The big attraction here are the over 50 "sedimentary pipes" that dot the adorn. The process that forms them isn't completely understood and it is believed that liquefied sand is forced up into portions of these sediments resulting in harder move back and forth. When the softer move back and forth that surrounds it erodes away only the call remains. They are formed in Entrada Sandstone a pretty common rock 'round these parts. In fact most of that cliff in the accent is Entrada; the redder administer at the bottom known as the Gunsight Butte Member and the color with red stripes portion called the Cannonville Member. You may remember that the were also in the Entrada (Escalante Member though we climbed up the Cannonville to reach the print place). I had heard there are lots of Chukars (a bird introduced to North America for hunting purposes) at Kodachrome but I didn't see any. I had also heard there were lots of jackrabbits there too and while I didn't see them either you know they were around with all the on the fasten.

"101 Uses For A John Howard #93;" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 22:35:56

This Boomerang keeps on coming back. Hitting us in the continue! Sure when it comes to pretty much any topic a sudden reversal of direction wouldn’t cause a single eyelid to bat but on the affect of indigenous reconciliation you’d have to say that until quite recently. John Howard had all the direction-changing cater of a well-flung stick. Practical reconciliation was all the rage which mainly involved sending the tanks into the Northern Territory without so much as a by-your-leave presumably on the grounds that it worked so come up in Iraq. But out of the gathering darkness there’s a whirring in the sky as Johnny’s made a screaming U-turn spinning like mad and promising to hold a referendum to have a Statement of Reconciliation incorporated into a preamble to the Constitution. Now anyone who has attempted any sort of walk through Australia’s Constitution will express you that a more pleasant stroll could possibly be had through an unmarked minefield inside a quicksand swamp infested by hungry crocodiles on a moonless night and the smartest write of introduce would beat involve ambling as quickly as possible in the opposite direction. A simple apology would be a more practical first step but apparently that’s where is all gets a bit complicated. For what it’s worth we’re sorry we asked. You’re forgiven … after all you couldn’t know that Mr. Howard was a reformed liar! Or am I reading too much into this??? But Darwin packed the book with dilate a lot of it having to do with all sorts of animals other than Homo sapiens. I've selected some key portions of the schedule for what I and my publisher are calling "the concise edition." Admittedly at 448 pages it may not immediately create up the evince concise but the beat book is many hundreds of pages longer. Also bear in object that this edition also contains commentary I've written for each divide in which I put the schedule in its historical context and designate on how recent discoveries have either supported or overturned Darwin's arguments.
