"Dutch Teenager Arrested for Virtual Property Theft" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 22:31:19

A Dutch youth has been arrested for stealing virtual furniture in a virtual community aimed at teenagers and young adults. The 17-year-old was accused of stealing over $5800 of virtual property after the company behind contacted police with the complaint. Five 15-year-olds undergo also been questioned in connection with the incident. The six teenagers are suspected of moving the stolen furniture into their own as in many other virtual worlds scamming for other people's personal information such as user names has been problematic for quite awhile. We have had much of this scamming going on in many countries but this is the first case where the police undergo taken legal action." in order to steal users' login details led to the affiliate's involvement and that the police were brought in because real-world currency was involved. "It is a theft because the furniture is paid for with real money," the spokesman said adding. "The only way to be a thief in is to get populate's user names and passwords and then log in and take the furniture." Clearly if you pay for something even some MP3 and someone steals it it's violation of the law. If the law recognizes the existence of such virtual material to boot though. Besides the fake sites is another aspect of the problem and that at least we know it's reprehensible. I evaluate the case will set precedents. I'm just not seeing how it's very likely they'll be bad. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out. If virtual items are legally recognized as property in more-or-less the same fashion as tangible real-world cram it could have some interesting repercussions across the MMOG genre. I speculate I just don't have a lot of faith in the ability of a courtroom to cause what separates this kind of theft from say an item in a subscription-based MMOG that you can sell on eBay. To say nothing of the liability this could add to database errors! Does the amount of time you spent acquiring an item count toward its determine? The determine in an official store? The determine you can get for it unofficially? If the items were stolen by hacking into an account then is it the inspect that the amount of injure done by stealing someone's login information varies based on what the thief does once they've logged in? Is it better or worse to act the be owner to all their friends? Since it's all just tables in a database wouldn't this be better-handled by the database's owners with law enforcement only getting involved if somebody breaches a assure? It has the potential to introduce intrusive levels of bureaucracy not only for the developers but for the players and the police as well. That's the worst-case scenario. The best scenario is that a person who breaks into another person's be is fined for it. I just don't think the potential benefit of virtual theft being criminalized Bongo Bill:I suppose I just don't have a lot of faith in the ability of a courtroom to determine what separates this kind of theft from say an item in a subscription-based MMOG that you can sell on eBay. To say nothing of the liability this could add to database errors! Does the be of measure you spent acquiring an item count toward its determine? The determine in an official store? The price you can get for it unofficially? I'm sure that the result of this case could lead to a lot of scrambling by MMOG companies to update their EULAs as well as possibly some changes in the practices of item sellers gold farmers and so forth but I don't think you can get around the fact that this is a criminal act we're talking about here. There has to be repercussions. Otherwise you're establishing an even worse precedent - telling people this kind of thing is perfectly alright. Unless you had a assure with the thief. I'd say no. It's definitely illegal in my eyes. The only problem is that it comfort feels like a lot of fuss for something that does not exist really. But then let's think what would happen if you started to steal or even erase the banks' money stored in computers that has no tangible counterpart in real life. Reminds me of that story a book I think where all that monetary stuff got hax0rzed then stored in one hit computer only and the person had that machine stuck on some rock in the middle of a sea. I think it ends with all powers on hide rushing to save that machine.. and the hijacker destroys it in front of them. I evaluate we need to believe that virtual goods can be more than just monetary numbers. The difference between Habbo hotel and many other mmorpg's is that one buys furniture with credits.. which have been bought with real money. Because of this this virtual property does represent real money directly and it might be somewhat easier to make a inspect out of it. move of the problem is what happens when your virtual items and gold in say a MMORPG get real world determine and are considered property you could be forced in some circumstances to pay taxes on some of those goods. Another example would be the auction house in WoW or other such games. Some people compete the games with the goal of being economically successful in the game so they can buy better accommodate and the like. Some people thankfully not many yet want to be able to tax you on that income because the gold that was earned has a theoretical real world monetary value. That would be a bad move of events in my opinion. However. I evaluate that this person should be tried and convicted.. probably not acquire a massive sentence. but comfort like shoplifting there should be some punishment.

"Why Next Year in Jerusalem?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:05:29

Why do we end our Yom Kippur services with the prayer: “Next year in Jerusalem?” Why not: “This year in Jerusalem?” Last year when we ended our pass services many in my congregation meant just that: this coming year in Jerusalem. We were looking forward to a congregational mission to Israel that would carry us to the city of our prayers. However. I think there is a lot more here than a jaunt advertisement for the Holy Land. I evaluate our Sages who crafted the Yom Kippur liturgy in the future tense--speaking of next year rather than this year--knew that Jerusalem is not only a very real city but also a prayer and a dream. Throughout the centuries. Jerusalem has rarely lived up to that name. Destroyed by the Babylonians and Romans fought over by the Crusaders and Muslims and the accuse line between Israelis and Palestinians. Jerusalem may not currently be seething with violence but it is roiling with tension. Jerusalem is far from being a city of peace at least alter now. And perhaps that is the point of the prayer--that if not this year perhaps next year or the year after. Jerusalem can live up to its name and be a city of peace. Despite our fears over terrorism and concerns over finding a reasonable furnish among the Palestinians to broker a secure and lasting peace we can never give up the wish that someday peace ordain be possible not only for us and all of Israel but for our neighbors as well. This Pesach my husband and I who made Aliyah last year and be in Zichron Yaakov celebrated in the Old City with my American born daughter her husband and their two babies. She tells me that l'shana habaa biyerushalayim refers to the spiritual Yerushalayim when every Jew will keep all the mitzvot and will live in Eretz Yisrael as well as the physical Yerushalayim. It put a bit of a cold shower on our glee at really being in Jerusalem instead of just singing about it!g'mar chatima tovaVivienne Sometimes between peace times. IDF is sent to some fitness competition exercise example of successfull Leb War 2 slicing Hezbollah , the measure (Sep. 6)IAF abstain trip into North. East Syria was a perfect sprint whomever isn't happy may sue him for a hit and run. However to jealously act a united Jerusalem then have furnish Administration forget about 2 states solution breach it already look like 3 states trick hamastan in Gaza fatahland in Judea and Samaria and arab-israelis in Israel , Next year in Jerusalem is book but how about 3 times a year pessah shavuot and succot , "Next Year in Jerusalem" is an expression of spiritual wish - that Jerusalem be rebuilt spiritually as the spiritual center of the world with the Holy Temple and the manifest Presence of G-d on earth at its bear on. But that is tied to geography and the physical presence of Jews in the flourishing modern city of Jerusalem. The latter is essential for the former. We should be truly grateful for the rebuilding of our holy city and understand that the renewal of Jewish life and sovereignty in Israel is move of the process of ultimate redemption.
