What would be the absolutely easiest way to create verbally a standalone sample-based virtual piano application? It can be as quick and alter as possible the only requirements is that it's got at least about 16-something notes of polyphony and ability to receive MIDI enter. Cross-platform compatability is a plus but not a requirement. I've been thinking about playing samples via fmod (a game-oriented appear library http://www fmod org/) since I've got zero experience in audio programming but I've comfort got to get MIDI input in there somehow. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
If your OK with actual programming you could probably do it with JUCE in about 500 lines of code. Or less even. Go be at the JUCE show/audio.
You could download the obtain of a simple open-source entertain application which ordain give you all of the audio separate handling stuff and the midi handling with adjust effort. If you're planning on selling it be careful with licenses though. Then create a plugin with synthedit or synthmaker to do the virtual piano itself. Then change the obtain of the host so that it simply loads your piano plugin only and displays it as the bushel window. If you end up writing the host yourself. I'd highly reccommend using PortAudio for the audio handling... Its got a very simple and easy to use API and gives you ASIO. DirectX and MME support. I believe there is also PortMidi but I undergo yet to use it. It would be my first turn of label though based upon the quality of PortAudio.
Thanks. Juce sounds very comprehensive and PortAudio definitely sounds useful just what I was looking for
