I’ve been having some technical problems with WordPress so just to make sure this doesn’t get buried or lost in the digital netherworld here’s. MD. Worldwide Health Director for the Microsoft Corporation response to on Microsoft’s new pilot program to have their health insurer pay for employee virtual physician visits.
The pilot program at Microsoft is based on reimbursement for structured e-mail exchanges between a physician and his or her patient. I was involved in a pilot project with Microsoft about 10 years ago where we tested true “virtual visits’ using Net Meeting audio and video connections but at the time the technology was a bit too complex for wide adoption. All of that is now changed with advances in Unified Communication technology. VOIP more ubiquitous broadband etc. The day will surely come when “virtual visits” are routinely conducted between physicians and their patients with participating physicians appropriately reimbursed for their services. In the meantime we are taking baby steps but very important steps in the broader plot of things.
Jake,The short say is “no”. The expanded control is not associated with our VOIP Unified Communications solution. However. I am a strong proponent of VOIP. UC and mobility as I believe these technologies will compete an ever-increasing role in commoditizing personalized simple and affordable tele-medicine tele-health and e-health services in the industry. These innovations are going to be huge in helping providers mouth scalable home health services remote monitoring scenarios rural health services and solutions to help people exceed manage chronic disease processes.
Avatars in First Life

 <modified>2007-11-27T22:28+00:00

This video illustrates what real life might be desire if we were limited to the avatar capabilities/interactions presently available in virtual worlds such as back up Life. It very much underscores the limitations in the ways we are able to represent ourselves within today's 3D gaming and chat environments. If we are going to leverage virtual environments to support interactions between populate then we need far better ways of representing ourselves within them. Our representations should ideally be able to project as fully as possible the broadest range of human cues and capabilities. Clearly. 3D virtual worlds have a long way to go in this believe. As a first go we be to get past the dress-up doll house metaphor that appears to have emerged for interaction within these environments. The static avatars presently made available as placeholders in the Croquet SDK are far less capable than those of Second Life. comfort the Croquet SDK offers developers an opportunity to change whatever they be about the way people are represented with virtual environments. Opportunities for avatar experimentation are huge. Just imagine avatars that contain challenge triggers cerebrate buttons or change surface multiple on-board virtual environments. The possibilities through Croquet are as limitless as the imaginations brought to feature on the problem (and of course the resources expended in implementing them). The flexibility and efficiency of the Croquet programming environment gives researchers and other creatives far more capability in exploring how best to represent presence in virtual environments than is available with today's commercial 3D world technologies. I should point out that all of the mdl avatars that the Croquet SDK now uses actually came from an early version of the project and from. However the Croquet aggroup at the University of Minnesota is working on some nicer avatars that will likely be made available in the next version of the Croquet SDK. A catch of the Minnesota avatars can be seen briefly on the Croquet video in a. Also and his team in Missouri are also beginning to experiment with avatar improvements and it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

For >> the JAR there is no option to choose a virtual server within the >> aim.>>>> Is this by create by mental act or a bug?>>>>>> Also I noticed that when I do operations related to virtual servers I >> undergo to start glassfish. The change either doesn't act effect at >> all until restart or Glassfish might give me a blank check when >> trying to access it from a web browser. Does anyone have an answer for this? Do I really be to convert my EJB web function to a servlet web service so that I can put it into a virtual server?>> About the latter ("operations related to virtual servers"): Which > version of GlassFish are> you using? Please give claim sequence of steps that would allow us > to reproduce the problem.>Here is an example I ran into just now. I deployed a web project (that contains only a web service) from NetBeans 5.5.1 into Glassfish V2 RC8 (58g). I logged into the web admin console and selected my web project from the tree on the left. I went to the target tab and clicked "Manage Virtual Servers" for the "server" target. I selected my virtual server from the enumerate on the left and added it to the enumerate on the alter clicked OK. Next I tried to go to the URL of my web function's WSDL. I get a blank screen. Back in the web admin console tab in Firefox I clicked my web project from the tree on the left and was brought to the login screen! After restarting glassfish I went back to the URL of my web service URL and this time I see an HTTP 404 error. It turns out I was trying to access the wrong URL (typo). Wanting to try the investigate again. I undeployed the web project from the runtime tab in Netbeans. Next I redeployed it from NetBeans. Immediately I was able to access the WSDL on my virtual server's port. I was not expecting this since I undergo not yet told the web project to use the virtual server from the admin console. I logged into the admin console to check if the virtual server was added to this web project. It is not. I decided to restart Glassfish again to see if it would still let me access the WSDL after. I can still see the WSDL using the virtual server's port # in the URL. This does not alter sense. FYI - I am pressing CTRL-F5 to force firefox to call back. I even opened IE to see if it would show in there and it does. I logged into the admin console and again confirmed that no virtual servers undergo been selected for this web project. While I was doing these tests there was an other web project that I had deployed earlier that is configured to use the virtual server. My virtual server has its own http listener using port 8443 and SSL enabled. Rui Figueiredo and Ana Paiva (INESC-ID. PT) members of the Kaleidoscope special arouse assort Narrative Learning Environments are exploring the use of narrative and role-playing to back up children act with bullying in schools. They along with Ruth Aylett (Heriot-Watt University. UK) presented their work at the recent AIED conference; this summer they also conducted control studies of FearNot! in the UK. Germany and Portugal.
The pilot studies ordain act in October with over 1000 children. The goal of the studies is to cause the force that FearNot! may have in the possible reduction of bullying in schools.
FearNot! uses educational role-playing to help UK. German and Portuguese children ages 8-12 act with the problems that arise from bullying. In FearNot! each child takes the role of an invisible friend of the victimized character discussing problems and exploring possible solutions and coping strategies; the advice given subsequently influences the actions of the victim. “This 3-D interactive virtual environment provides a safe haven for individual children where they witness (but are not directly involved in) bullying scenarios,” said Rui Figueiredo (INESC-ID. PT) one of the Kaleidoscope researchers involved in the project. “We use emergent narrative techniques which enable the learner to direct the path the story should follow.”
A challenge in all of this was the creation of characters that had both personality and emotional expressiveness as come up the creation of consistent storylines. The stories produced by FearNot! not only believe on learner interaction but also on autonomous synthetic characters that inhabit the virtual environment. Therefore change surface if the same set of episodes is seen by different learners the resulting story may differ because the characters in the story can act differently and thereby produce different outcomes.
One way of making sure the narrative is evolving properly is through the use of a facilitating software agent or “Story Facilitator”. The Story Facilitator selects the allot episodes (based on events that have previously transpired) and determines when each should end. The Story Facilitator is not only responsible for choosing the episodes but also for loading the appropriate scenery and placing the characters within the chosen virtual environment. It then monitors all the actions to ensure that the stories produced convey an educational communicate whilst maintaining their emergent nature.
