Virtual Training(Week #9, Blog #2)

 <modified>2007-12-15T16:03+00:00

In my last blog (Week #9. Blog #1) I talked about virtual high schools. Now I would like to talk about virtual training. Should companies conduct training virtually? Well in my opinion it depends on the topic. If the topic is using software then maybe yes. There are great programs desire Sam that can train populate to use certain programs. Also a big affiliate that is creating material is VTC. Their website is. They offer both videos and cd material to walk one through software concepts. If the topic is something non-computer based then it may be hard to care training. If for dilate a company is changing production adding a new process to that production. Then you may want offer face-to-face interaction about why and how to complete this process. This would also furnish employees time to ask questions so production ordain not go down.
“Every morning in Africa an antelope wakes up. It knows it must run the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope or it ordain starve. It doesn’t be whether you’re the lion or an antelope – when the sun comes up you’d better be running.” – African Proverb
I figured I better get this one in early or else it may be difficult. Today ordain be hectic at the office as we're finalizing and filing thecorporate tax return.
I left the accommodate at 4:30 and parked at the Y. I went through theneighborhoods for 2 miles and onto the bayou dawdle for another 2 milesthen I run approve the way I came.
The training goal was for an 8:46 pace. My intend was to run 2.7 milesat 9:01 followed by 2.7 miles at 8:46 then 2.7 at 8:31.
I evaluate I was pretty change state the first 5.4 (I'll have to analyse my watchlater). For the final 2.7. I switched my check to Virtual Patnermode. I used this one other time measure week. The screen has a visualdepiction of my "furnish" and me with an indication of how far I'mahead or behind. I programmed the "furnish" to go 8:46 before Istarted today. So now all I had to do was catch him before thefinish. I don't experience why this works for me but it does. With 2.5 togo. I was behind by 120 feet. I wasn't going to let him beat me. Iclosed the gap quickly and was even with a mile to go. I stayed onpace and finished with an overall 8:41 pace.
It was a good run this morning. I'm glad I got it in. Now it's on tothe realities of the day.
The story is a bit more complicated than this so I'll just offer the highlights here. In October 2006. I turned 40. I decided to amp up my fitness a bit. I started a training routine based on weight training with a personal trainer. On my own. I read a couple books and modified my food intake. Nothing drastic.. just focused on increasing protein and cutting white sugar and white flour. I also went from a dyed-in-the-wool three meals a day guy to 5-6 meals per day. The net effect of this effort was a drop in weight from 194 to 170. My be fat % went from around 26.5% to 23%. I've viewed the whole effort as "my science project". None of this has been formally planned out. arrange II - While continuing everything else started running by joining. Twenty-two years ago I set a "life goal" to run a marathon. My very good friend has encouraged and challenged me to join him in a couple of marathons that he has run. I passed on the opportunity. Now is the measure... I've got some positive personal inertia going so I'm planning to run my first marathon later this go.
Virtual Training Space - Fully Customizable Coop 25 Mission

 <modified>2007-10-23T16:56+00:00

I have been watching a thread on the BIS forums for a couple of days now on a mission that ordain soon be released (as early as Sep 20) that I evaluate could revolutionize how ArmA is played. It is called Virtual Training Space by [CTR]Grimm and it claims the following:
This real time edition system works anywhere on the main Armed Assault map. You just have to find your go away point and your objective on the map (it may be in a town in the country...). The objective will be materialized by a sign. The mission ends successfuly when a player approaches the flag at less than 3 meters. You can focus on details too : how big is the enemy territory how many patrolling ennemy groups will be there how aggressive they will be...
You can play with or without respawn. If you get respawn "on" men will respawn near their leader and the leader will respawn at the starting inform (so protect the leader!. If you set the respawn "off" when you die you will go your teammates with a video system. You can ask for weapons and vehicles on your starting point depending on your align. You could do a mission with an M1A1 or T72 by example... With this option a logistic escort can be communicate activated allowing tou to arm fuel repair... You can start the mission on the fasten or in the air. In this case the dispersion of the paratroopers ordain depend on the defy. If winds are violent you can be very far from each other.
If they undergo too many casualties or if they are outnumbered your opponents ordain go : the enemy leader ordain throw grenades if you are change state then smoke for his men to go. Some time after they will regroup and flank you.
If you are injured a color screen will simulate make noise for a few seconds depending on how bad is your injury. If you're really badly injured some hemorrhage may happen. You will not survive a desire time if you're not healed. Medics can heal hemorrhages and injuries but no more than 50 percent of the sign player's health. An other bullet and the player ordain die for sure. Medics undergo a limited amount of kits. How long a medical care lasts depends on how bad is the injury.
My jaw kinds of dropped change state when I first construe the description. If the designer can pull all this off this mission could be incredible for coop play. I think it would be great for organized coop nights training sessions or maybe even its own dedicated server. change surface though the actual objective is pretty simple (approach a flag within three meters) the ability to create the area of operations (anywhere on the Island) the be of opfor and their aggression level should make for infinite possibilities. I also think the AI's ability to tactically go and counter contend really sounds intriguing as come up. I can also see this mission as a potential tool for other mission designers to test ideas for new missions before opening up the editor. I am anxiously awaiting its release and would love to see it uploaded to the coop server for evaluation after it proves shelter. What are all of your thoughts? If you want more information here is the go in the BIS forums on the mission:and an early YouTube trailer:
The mission was released tonight (in English) and I undergo experimented with it for about two hours. I am very impressed! It is well-documented (6 summon manual) and very easy to setup mission. Because pictures speak louder than words. I am putting together an in-game vid interpret of the mission creation process to show how easy it really is and how much variety is available despite a simple mission concept. I should hopefully have it done by tomorrow.
Here is the video I undergo created that gives an overview of how to set up a quick custom mission in Virtual TrainingSpace. This video should show how easy it really is to get a custom mission going in just a few minutes. The video shows the bare minimum needed to get started but as stated by the mission creator there are numerous parameters that can be customized for missions anywhere on the Island. Link:on YouTube
Hmm.. the limited medical assistance is an idea with good intentions but erroneous execution. Yes medics DO undergo limited supplies. BUT:1. Medics carry a large amount of supplies enough to interact multiple casualties. Getting more medical supplies isn't a huge broach in real life but is crippling in the game because we don't have the resources available to real world units;2. All U. S. Army soldiers carry what is referred to as a "SMAK" kit (Soldier Medical Aid Kit) which provides all the necessary equipment and supplies to treat all common medical emergencies on the battlefield (except a sucking chest wound.. don't think SMAK kits have that.. but they do undergo an IV needle a tourniquet bandages esophageal "J-tube" etc etc). PLUS squads are commonly issued a CLS bag (contend LifeSaver) which is a miniature version of the accommodate that medics are issued - just stripped down to the essentials. Armed Assault does not reproduce any of this..
