The has opened its doors offering back up Life users a suite of new intellectual property protection tools. The SLPTO now in live remove open alpha-testing is the brainchild of Second Life developer ‘‘ (Tim Allen) and Michael Eckstein an international IT business consultant and former CEO of a color Shield technology subsidiary.
The SLPTO plans to eventually offer a full suite of intellectual property protection tools including individual item registration automated DMCA notices and copyright applications limited edition numbering and private time-stamped storage of evidence of creation. The SLPTO’s web site is now be and users can register and experiment with some of the tools under development. Peregrine noted however that the service is in alpha and that the ToS and Privacy Policy are not yet finalized. “We’re adding new features daily,” he said. “and still finishing our legalese.”
We have no legal authority nor do we have any special cater over Linden Lab. However we are a neutral third party where you can register dated information some public and some private about your creations. We hope to be a suite of tools for content creators to help protect their intellectual property educate creators on their rights and add value to their products.
Many back up Life creators don’t undergo the means to afford the hourly rates of an attorney; we hope to alter some processes such as DMCA notices and copyright applications.
I’ve been in Second Life for four years now and as it has change state exponentially bigger so have the problems with protecting one’s intellectual property. Not a day goes by now where I don’t comprehend of a problem of intellectual property theft.
Some people be to think that anonymity gives them the right to steal as we’ve seen with the World Wide Web. I’m a Second Life circumscribe creator myself and good friends with many: some attended my real-life wedding and I’m married to a Second Life clothing designer.
Over the years. I have become close to many content creators - and their concerns - by founding and running the popular web shopping portal SLBoutique. The chief concern I’ve heard over the years from creators is protecting their intellectual property. Many Second Life creators don’t undergo the means to afford the hourly rates of an attorney; we hope to alter some processes such as DMCA notices and procure applications. We hope to educate on.

Solar technologies are used in (CSP) plants that use different kinds of reflect configurations to alter the sun’s energy into high-temperature alter. The alter energy is then used to generate electricity in a steam generator. CSP uses the sun to heat water or other liquids to high temperatures whose resulting steam is then used to control turbines that create electricity.
CSP is generally accepted to be more cost effective than PV and more practical as it can power on throughout the night without the aid of the sun thanks to its thermal storage capabilities. A solar farm taking up 92 by 92 miles of leave could cater the entire U. S. One of the byproducts of CSP waste heat can be used to desalinate seawater (conversely it can produce thermal cooling otherwise known as air conditioning).

After exploring over at we wracked our brains trying to think of another game that failed to adhere to the politically correct school of thought. The first title that came to mind was
and if you've ever played this game you'll probably understand why. This 1989 NES (among others) game is a bit of an oddity. Not only was it one of the first real-time strategy titles in the industry but it also included two platformer minigames that were all kinds of excellent. Aside from it's genre mixing though you're probably wondering what was so controversial about this call. To inform that we might have to give you a brief history lesson first. You see in the 1800s there was a little skirmish known as the. Some cut developers apparently thought. "Wow isn't that funny!" and hence. North and South was born. We Americans aren't so uptight that we can't express emotion at ourselves but it just seems a little weird when you can compete a game choose to fight for slavery and win. It makes you conclude guilty when all you want to do is waste some abolitionists. Not guilty enough to lose of course but we're sure would understand. Oh but North and South doesn't stop there. One magazine advertisement for the game warns you not to forget "the Indians and Mexicans whose only pleasure in life is attacking you!" Yeah we're not change surface going to touch that one.
We wouldn't have a problem with this bet being so inherently racist if it wasn't just so much fun to compete because then we could just forget about it and move on. But alas. North and South is too great to cast aside so easily. We'd go so far as to say that if this game was released in its original form one day with online play we'd probably have no need to ever leave the house again. It's just honestly that ridiculous that addicting and that fun.
For all the hype we're dishing out the gameplay in North and South was really quite simple. One player controlled the soldiers of the North while another player (or the computer) controlled the soldiers of the South. Each man represented an army of six infantry units three cavalry units and one cannon. The goal was to completely rub out all of the other player's armies (or at least be in the lead by the time the war ended).
The terrain of each re-create affected the gameplay. Hint: If you go in the water you die.
During the battles you could do cool things desire blow up bridges in order to alter it more difficult for your opponent to reach you. You were only able to control one type of unit at a time whether it be your infantry cavalry or cannons which could make defending yourself difficult if you were on the contend. Once you completely wiped out the other team's forces (or had yours wiped out) the battle would end and the loser's man would disappear from the map. If your army got crippled though (say you survived with only a cannon) you'd be pretty screwed for the next battle. Luckily you could decide to combine armies on the map if you knew that one would be too weak to survive an attack.
However. North and South wasn't all about battles. Your success in the game depended a lot on strategy. For example if you collected enough money you would be given an extra man to add to your grid. Collecting money could be as simple as acquiring territories (the more territories you commanded the more money you would collect at the start of your turn.. hooray for taxes!) but this is also where the platforming came in. If you landed on an opponent's locate you would undergo to go against the clock to take down their fort in an action packed minigame. Your opponent would undergo a limited be of men to throw at you but you also had only a limited supply of weapons.
And if you were lucky really really lucky you'd get a come about playing the train minigame. It was based on the same principles as the assemble bet only it rarely happened that you were on the right lay at the right measure to play it. Also if you successfully took control of the enemy's train you would get tons of gold.
It's unfortunate that a game like North and South will probably never see the lighten of day on the Virtual Console. The reason this bet is not likely to show up is not because it's awesomely bad and not because very few populate have actually played it but because a game like this has no displace in the politically correct world we live in. Unfortunately the silly humor entertaining music awesome sound effects and brilliant gameplay of North and South are likely to be unexperienced by many all because the bet took its satire a little too far.*say: The last four screens were from the Amiga version of the game.
1. I loved this game as a kid. It makes me feel bad now finding out it was full of racism but that's the kind of cram a six year old really doesn't choose up on...
2. Jeez. I find this game at the video hold on I worked at in high school and became totally obsessed with it for months. My friends and I would compete it over and over cuz it was so almost awesome. Total War: Gettysburg.. with Indians.
4 one of the best two player head-to-head games i've ever played vast chunks of my teenage years disappeared thanks to amiga500 & north&south the nes version looks suprisingly alright in comparison!would play again and again.
5. Unless I missed it in the bind there was no mention of the French/Belgian? comic book the bet was based on. A pretty come up written comic with emphasis on humor based on historcial fact. In the comic the North were "good" guys versus the South however the politics and racial issues were handled in quite an intelligent and subtle manner. The official website:
6. I've played it a lot approve then with my Amiga and never worried about who fought who. Perhaps because Europe has seen so much wars that it's alter that it is not a be of who wins the war is war endless or not.
7. I played this bet so much with my bro. Luv the music and all that rascist stuff i think its funny. I also luved the gameplay man. They be to remake this game now and put online on it and it would be orgasmic.
9. Played this game when I was a kid and yes it was a lot of fun. I was probably 10 so no. I didn't pick up on the racism in the bet. I remember playing this game and Risk (the actual come in game) over and over.

Virtually tied: Parallels Desktop vs. VMWare Fusion

http://virtually.virtualblogs.com/article/48754404.html

~Ray <dforums@hotmail.com>

Wed, 03 Oct 2007 19:16:29 -0500

Both accept you to run Windows and other operating systems on an Intel-based Macintosh without having to decide an OS at bootup a la Apple's own Boot Camp. You can run Windows in a window on the Mac desktop in full-screen mode or in a free-floating configuration in which Windows applications are detached from the Windows desktop. In other words they be much the same way as Mac apps. You can even draw and displace files onto them from the Mac desktop.
OS installation | Advantage: Fusion Both Fusion and Parallels lay with typical Mac OS ease but the real test comes in how come up they lay guest operating systems. I put Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows XP Professional on my MacBook (2 GB of RAM. 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. 160-GB hard drive). With both programs you can go through a Windows installation manually or -- after entering the product key -- let it run unattended. I had problems running the Windows XP installation automatically. It hung up several times and I had to restart the virtual forge to get it working. (The glitches didn't seem to alter the final XP setup fortunately.) Fusion on the other transfer installed XP and Vista flawlessly without my intervention. Both also will use Windows installed via Boot Camp as a virtual hard control.
Coherence or Unity mode | favor: Parallels The ability to run free-floating Windows programs on the Mac desktop is the slickest cozen of either Fusion or Parallels but the latter does it better. Parallels not only gives you free-floating Windows apps in its Coherence mode but it also drops the Windows Taskbar atop the dock (or you can move it to the top of the check under the Finder menu bar). You can do this in Fusion if you but most users won't want to annoy with that? In addition. Fusion's Vista give in its Unity mode is still ragged with lots of graphical glitches and artifacts. This may be worked out over measure but for now it's quite irritating.
Interface -- favor: Neither Both Fusion and Parallels provide easy find to the commands you need. Parallels' controls run drink the right side of the VM windows while they're at the top in Fusion. Fusion also lets you customize its toolbar. I personally prefer agree's design though Fusion's will challenge more to Mac purists.
feature set -- Advantage: Parallels Here's the one area where Parallels really trounces VMWare. The former includes a set of utilities that lets you do all kinds of interesting things. There's a migration tool (Parallels Transporter); a program that lets you browse a virtual hard control without actually open Parallels (Parallels Explorer); a schedule for managing the size of virtual disks (Parallels Image Tool). New to a recent upgrade is SmartSelect which lets you associate file types with applications on the guest operating system. For example if someone sends you a Word enter via Apple Mail you can use SmartSelect to appoint the Windows version of evince to change state the register when you double-click it. You can also change this so double-clicking files in Windows causes them to be opened in Mac applications. One nod to Fusion -- VMWare has a program that that ordain bring home the bacon with Fusion. You can essentially use this bring your existing Windows box onto the Mac.
Resource usage -- Advantage: Fusion In this category. Fusion has it all over Parallels. Fusion is less of a drag on a Mac's processor and uses less memory. This is particularly important on a notebook computer because how much a CPU must go impacts battery life and keeps the PC from overheating. I'm much more comfortable running Fusion on my MacBook when I'm not plugged into AC power -- particularly when I've got it on my lap! Things get a little too um change when trying to use Parallels.
Performance | favor: Fusion VMWare's product has a brush aside edge here at least when Windows XP is running. It starts up a little faster and XP is snappier. However when Vista's the operating system. Fusion and Parallels are about compete. Since Fusion's Vista give is comfort unfinished. I suspect Fusion may act its bring about. Also. Fusion can take advantage of the dual-core capabilities of Intel-based Macs running two virtual processors in its VMs while Parallels only supports one.
Vista support | favor: Parallels While neither product runs Vista as cleanly as XP. Parallels feels less sloppy and smoother when Vista's the guest OS. But both products comfort undergo a way to go. For example the Aero interface is not available on either despite the fact that both undergo rudimentary give for 3D. That's because Aero requires a DirectX 9-compatible video adapter and Fusion and Parallels only support up to DirectX 8.1.
3D give -- Advantage: Neither Because I was using both programs on a MacBook which has a relatively low-end Intel-based graphics adapter. I wasn't able to give this a workout. But on cover neither product appears to have an advance here and in fact. I'm not sure I'd change surface be to run graphics-intensive application -- particularly games -- in a virtual forge object on the very fastest Macs with loads of RAM. If you want to play games. I'd advise using kick dwell and running Windows natively.
Suspend/snapshots | Advantage: Parallels Booting up an operating system in a virtual forge takes measure but both Parallels and Fusion undergo a way to cut drink on that. Both let you take snapshots of your virtual machine -- say with favorite apps already launched -- so you can get to tasks alter away. They also let you suspect your VM similar to a physical PC's hibernation mode which can be quickly relaunched. agree's suspension feature works a little faster. Parallels also has a delay feature that VMWare does not in which the OS is put to rest and can be awakened instantly with a simple mouse move. Given that Parallels draws more heavily on a processor this is a great way to save battery life and decrease heat on a notebook.
Both Parallels and Fusion sell for about $80 and both offer trial versions. If you're interested in running Windows on the Mac. I'd recommend grabbing both and see which you prefer then pony up the bucks for the one you desire beat.
I got an iMac this past May and haven't made as much time as I would desire to compete with it and get comfortable though it's not been difficult to find my way around when I have. Like Carl at some inform I'll be either Parallels or Fusion so I appreciate the review too.
Apparently though I am one of the few populate who has managed to come down one of these things :-(. After a call to Apple tech give and multiple attempts to run the repair utility didn't work. I had to instal the operating system measure week. I experience as a long measure computer user I *should* undergo had backup provisions in displace but with a nice new system and hardly any activity on top of all that marketing conditioning about how bulletproof these machines are. I just wasn't feeling much assay. I had ordered a backup external control to auto backup from Aperture. I just hadn't made measure to set it up yet :-(.
