"Solaris 10 under VirtualPC - Reset network after restarting saved ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 16:47:00

Hi,As I've posted previously. I undergo Solaris 10 X86 running under Virtual PC 2004 and I installed the "tu" communicate driver to replace the default "dnet" driver which seemed to undergo eliminated most of the connectivity loss problems I had earlier. However. I'm finding that when I go away the Solaris VPC guest after having saved it earlier that the networking is not working. "ifconfig -a" comfort shows tu0 as being UP but I can't connect out or in. Rebooting the Solaris guest gets the networking working again but I was hoping that someone here could suggest some way to get the networking working again without a reboot. What I've tried so far is "ifconfig tu0 down" then "ifconfig tu0 up" but it still doesn't bring home the bacon after that. Is there something else that I can do to "start" the networking as if it was rebooting but without having to do a complete reboot? Thanks,Jim. . from the scraps lying around with the intention of installing Solaris... NICS(quite old ones with the hope that Solaris would accept them). ... Connectingto the internet is NOT difficult! ... The system will resuscitate and you will be asked for a new rootpassword and all the networking information. ... (comp unix solaris)

"Fixing Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn Mouse under Virtual PC 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 19:16:40

OK thanks to a suggestion I saw on the Ubuntu forums. I open a workaround for the no mouse air of sorts. This won’t furnish you the mouse back but it will let you use Ubuntu 7.04 using keyboard control. First let me act a second to inform what the air is. There was a bug in the kernel code that affected many different distros of Linux. Apparently the kernel was not finding PS/2 style mice. Some work has been done and now most PS/2 call mice are now being found. object sadly for the ones being emulated. Both VMWare and VirtualPC emulate a PS/2 style walk and are not getting found by the kernel. Remember it doesn’t be what type of walk you undergo hooked up to the entertain box (I undergo two mice a Logitech MediaPlay and Microsoft jaunt mouse both USB). It only matters what the virtual machine is telling the guest OS (Ubuntu) which is PS/2 call walk. OK that explained let’s play with Ubuntu some. Fire up Virtual PC then use the CD menu to either capture an ISO image or capture the CD Drive you undergo the Ubuntu Desktop disk in. When the menu appears decide “Start Ubuntu in Safe Graphics Mode” by hitting the drink arrow once and pressing Enter. If you disappoint to do this you’ll get garbled graphics. When the Keyboard Accessibility Preferences window appears you should already be on the “Enable keyboard accessibility features”. (You can express you’re on it because of the little ‘dancing ants’ rectangle around it.) Just touch the SPACE BAR to check this on as you see below. Press TAB again to get to the “alter Mouse Keys” and touch the lay BAR to check it on. Now tab on down to the Close button and touch ENTER. What you just did was turn the numeric keypad into your walk. When you press left (number 4 ) the mouse moves left touch the up arrow (be 8 ) walk goes up and so on. The angles bring home the bacon pressing 7 (the home key on my keypad) moves up and to the left for exampe. Finally the be 5 key works as the walk move. One thing to be aware of these only work with the numeric keys. It ordain not work with the standard arrow keys. Laptop owners with be keyboards are in for a painful experience you’ll have to hit NUMLOCK to activate the mouse then turn Numlock off to be able to write letters again. come up there you go a way you can use Ubuntu 7.04 in Virtual PC 2007. Not the greatest solution but might work for you until the kernel air gets fixed.
