I am from Vietnam. I've known VMWare since I work for my ex-employer Intel. Now. I decide to be an entrepreneur for a small business that orient to technology and I wonder whether or not that I could bring any value added to my prospective customers by applying VMWare. I really enthusiast to understand about VMWare but i don't know where to start. I looked at bunch of download and software but what is suitable for me? For the documentation and manual it would take days to learn about the features and recognize the real benefit of each software for me as I am not a technical guy. I think vmware should have a brieft description for each one with the specific most applicable user recommendation and it would be better for marketing guys like me to understand.
In this discussion. I would like to ask people in the community that where should i start now what is the aspect that i should look first (as in the position that I am a SMB owner)
You might consider starting with VMware Server - . It is free and it will run on Windows or Linux. It's a pretty fast install and you can then start to create your virtual machines (VMs). What are you trying to gain via virtualization? If you're looking at server consolidation then you have VMware Server or various editions of VMware ESX Server. If you want to run VMs on people's desktops then you have VMWare Player. Fusion (for Macs) and Workstation. If you're looking at server consolidation. VMware Server will give you a good introduction for running VMs. If you find that beneficial then you can then consider ESX. ESX installs on bare hardware performs better and is more stable. But it's a bit of a tougher start and it only supports a limited hardware set. VMware Server on the other hand will run on whatever you can install Windows or Linux on.
